Peace that Remains

Scripture

“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.” Psalm 107:28-31 NIV

Prayer

Father, we give thanks to you this morning for your unfailing love and your wonderful deeds for us. You are the Almighty God who created the oceans, and your power is what stirs them up and calms them down. You alone are the sovereign God—the only one who is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient.

You are still on your throne, and yet you know every detail of what we go through: our thoughts, our fears, our hopes, our suffering, and our victories. How precious are your thoughts toward us, O Lord (Ps. 139:17).

Father, we eagerly look forward to the day when you will calm the waves of the sea we are in the middle of, but until then, please calm us. Pour out your peace, comfort, and healing. Help us to rest in you—let quietness and trust be our strength (Is. 30:15).

Let us be found faithful, no matter what we walk through.

“Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together!” (Ps. 34:3)

We magnify your name this morning, Lord. We exalt your name—you are worthy to be praised!

In Jesus’ name, amen.

Questions for Reflection

  1. Where in my life am I asking God to calm the storm—rather than allowing Him to calm me within it?

  2. What would it look like for me to choose quiet trust today, even if nothing around me changes?
