Boast in the Lord

Scripture

For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.  And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption,  so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

Prayer

Father, thank You for reminding us that Your plans are not based on the world's standards. You do not look for the strongest, the wisest, or the most accomplished—you simply call hearts that are willing to trust and follow You. Help us never to measure our worth by the world's definition of success, but to rest in the truth that we are chosen by You and made new through Jesus Christ.

Lord, protect us from pride when life is going well and from discouragement when we feel overlooked or inadequate. Remind us that every good thing in our lives is a gift of Your grace. Help us not to seek recognition for ourselves, but instead live in a way that points others to the You, the One who is our wisdom, our righteousness, our holiness, and our redemption.

Today, may our confidence rest completely in You. Let our lives reflect humble gratitude for all You have done, and may every accomplishment, every blessing, and every opportunity become another reason to give You the glory. May our greatest joy always be found in boasting, not in ourselves, but in the faithfulness and goodness of our Lord – in His name we pray – AMEN.

Questions for Reflection

  1. Am I measuring my value by the world's standards or by God's calling on my life?

  2. Where has pride quietly crept into my heart, and where do I need greater humility?
