The Power of the Cross

Scripture

“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.’ Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.” I Corinthians 1:18-21

Prayer

Father, we thank You for the incredible gift of the cross. What the world often dismisses as weakness or foolishness is the very power that has rescued and redeemed us. We thank You that our salvation is not found in human wisdom, good works, or our own understanding, but in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Keep our hearts anchored in the truth of the gospel each and every day.

Lord, please guard us from relying on our own understanding or chasing the wisdom this world offers. Teach us to seek Your truth above every other voice and to trust Your ways even when they do not make sense to us. Give us the humility to believe that Your wisdom is always higher, Your plans are always better, and Your Word is always trustworthy.

Help us to never lose sight of the wonder of the cross. Let it shape the way we think, the way we live, and the way we love others. Help us to boldly hold fast to the message of Christ, knowing it is not foolishness, but the power of God at work in all who believe. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

 Questions for Reflection

  1. Am I trusting God's wisdom, even when it doesn't align with the world's way of thinking?

  2. How has the message of the cross changed the way I live each day?
