Cleansed

Today’s Focus

Reflecting on what it means to draw near to God with an undivided heart.

Scripture

“Since then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:14-16 ESV

Prayer

Thank you, Lord, that we can come directly to you with our prayers and praises and you hear us. As we reflect on the way you cleansed the temple, we are reminded that you desire what is pure and undivided—and that you have made a way for us to draw near to you. Thank you for making a way for us to do this through Jesus Christ, your son. As we reflect on this Easter season, we are reminded that because of His sacrifice and resurrection, the way to you has been opened fully and forever. And thank you, Father, that you already know what we need before we even ask or know ourselves. Everything we go through first passes and is sifted through your loving hands.

Lord, you understand our weaknesses, and you don’t despise us because of them; you love us through them and despite them. You long for us to come to you. Father, we come boldly before you this morning because of the sacrifice of your son—just as your word says—asking for your mercy on us, on our families, on our friends, and on our nation.

Lord, in your great mercy, pour out your comfort and your peace on us. Protect your people, precious Lord, and continue to provide for us. As we move through this week, keep our hearts anchored in the sacrifice of Jesus. Help us not to rush past it, but to sit with what it cost and the love that was poured out for us. Deepen our gratitude and shape our hearts in light of all He has done.

In Jesus mighty name, AMEN!

Questions for Reflection

  1. Is there anything in my heart that needs to be cleared away so I can draw near to God more fully in prayer this week?

  2. What is something I’ve been hesitant to bring before God—and what would it look like to come to Him with confidence today?
