Today’s Focus

Welcoming Jesus not just in our words, but in the way we live.

Scripture

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.” 2 Peter 1:3-4 ESV

Prayer

Thank you Lord, that your divine power has given us everything we need to live a life of godliness. As we begin this week, we remember the joy of welcoming you as King—just as the crowds did when you entered Jerusalem. Help us to receive you with that same joy and expectation, not just in word, but in the way we live.

Remind us that because of the resurrection of Jesus, we are not only forgiven, but invited into new life through your power at work in us. That power that is available to us is the same power you used to raise Jesus from the dead and create this world we live in. Is anything too difficult for you, Lord?

Through your Word, you have revealed your precious promises to us. Help us to desire your Word more and more each day, Father. I pray we wouldn’t be able to stay away from it. Reveal your truth to us and make us people of your Word, rooted and grounded firmly in it so that when the trials of this world come, we are secure and steady, not wavering or weak. Thank you for being so patient with us, Lord, gently nudging us along.

As we move through this week leading up to Easter Sunday, help us to fix our hearts on the sacrifice of Jesus. Keep us from rushing past it, and instead draw us to sit with what it cost and the love that was poured out for us. Deepen our gratitude, and shape our hearts in light of all you have done for us.

In Jesus name, amen.

Questions for Reflection

  1. Where in my life do I need to rely more on God’s power instead of my own strength?

  2. How can I intentionally pursue God’s Word this week as a response to the new life I have in Christ?
