Established in Him
Scripture
“Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.” 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 ESV
Prayer
Lord, you don’t just give us comfort and hope through your grace—you are the very source of both. You are the only place where true comfort is found and lasting hope is secure.
So often, we look for comfort in the things of this world—temporary relief that may ease our minds for a moment, but never truly settles our hearts. We are grateful for those brief respites, Lord, but help us to remember they are not a substitute for you. Draw us back when we begin to rely on anything else. Teach us to press into you, the only source of peace that truly satisfies.
And the same is true of hope. We are thankful for the people in our lives and the many blessings you’ve given us—but they were never meant to carry the weight of our hope. Only you can hold that place. Guard our hearts from placing that burden on others, and gently redirect us when we do.
Turn our hearts toward you when we begin to stray. Open our eyes to see our circumstances through your truth. As you calmed the seas, speak peace over our anxious thoughts and quiet what feels unsettled within us.
And Lord, we lift up our nation to you. In the midst of tension and uncertainty, would you bring peace. Steady hearts, restore clarity, and draw people back to you.
Establish your truth deep within us, and strengthen us to stand firm in every good work and word. We trust you, Lord.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
