Following the Good Shepherd

Scripture

“For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.  He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.  When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.  He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.  For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.” 1 Peter 2:21-25

Prayer

Father, thank You for this beautiful passage in 1 Peter that invites us to fix our eyes on Christ—not only as our Savior, but also as our example of how to live.  When life feels unfair or difficult, remind us to look to Him and follow in His footsteps. Give us the strength to respond with grace instead of resentment, with humility instead of pride, and with trust instead of fear. May our lives reflect the character of Christ in the way we speak, respond, and love others.

Lord, thank You that Jesus willingly carried our sins to the cross so that we could die to sin and live for righteousness. Because of His sacrifice, we have been forgiven, redeemed, and made new. Help us not to return to old ways of thinking or living, but to walk each day in the freedom and new life You have given us. Make us steadfast and resilient in our faith.

When we are tempted or lose our way, remind us that You are our faithful Shepherd and Guardian. Help us trust Your leading, rest in Your unfailing love, and follow You with confident hearts, knowing You will never leave us or forsake us. In Jesus' name, amen.

 Questions for Reflection

  1. In what situation is God inviting me to follow Christ's example instead of reacting in my own strength?

  2. How can I more intentionally trust the Good Shepherd to guide my steps today?
