Run With Purpose
Scripture
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” I Corinthians 9:24-27
Prayer
Father, thank You for the privilege of running this race of faith. Thank You for calling us to follow You and for giving our lives a purpose that reaches far beyond what we can see today. Thank You that the prize we are pursuing is not temporary or fading, but eternal. Help us never to lose sight of what really matters.
Lord, help us not to run aimlessly - but instead - give us clear purpose and help us to be intentional in the things we do and say. It’s so easy to get caught up in distractions and busyness. Give us the wisdom and self-control to recognize the things that do distract us from You and the courage to lay them aside. When following You requires sacrifice or perseverance, strengthen us to keep going. When we become weary or lose our focus, remind us of what’s important and draw us back to You.
May our lives reflect the faith we profess. Help us not only to speak about following You, but to live it out in everything we do - our choices, our habits, our relationships, and the way we spend our time. Give us the strength to keep running faithfully, trusting You with every step and keeping our hearts fixed on the eternal prize. In Jesus' name, Amen.
