Strength for the Weary

Scripture

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31 ESV

Prayer

Lord, you are the Everlasting God; you have neither beginning nor end. You have always been and always will be. You strengthen us in our weaknesses, and when we feel discouraged, You are the lifter of our heads.

Father, please encourage our hearts this morning and keep our eyes looking up to You and not around us at the chaos in this world. Keep our minds fixed on You throughout the day, and when they stray, please be quick to remind us to turn our thoughts back to You.

LORD, Your thoughts are not our thoughts, and Your ways are not our ways. Though we do not always understand what You are doing, we know that You are good, faithful, and mighty. Remind us of these truths today.

Please be with those who are hurting and comfort them; be with those who are vulnerable and protect them; be with those who are weary, renew their strength, and encourage their hearts as they wait on you. Calm our fears and give us Your peace.

In the powerful name of Jesus, amen.

Questions for Reflection

  1. Which truth about God's character do I most need to remember today—that He is everlasting, faithful, mighty, or good?

  2. How can I encourage someone who may be feeling weary or discouraged right now?
