The Call of Wisdom

Scripture

“Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.” — Proverbs 8:10–11 (ESV)

Prayer

Lord, please teach us to recognize what is truly valuable. We live in a world that constantly tells us what we should pursue, what we should possess, and what will make us successful or fulfilled. Yet Your Word reminds us that wisdom is worth more than the things we can accumulate. Help us not to measure our lives by what we have, but by who we are becoming through You.

Give us hearts that are eager to receive Your instruction, even when it’s difficult for us to understand. Make us teachable when You correct us, willing to listen when You speak, and humble enough to admit when we do not have all the answers. Protect us from becoming so confident in our own understanding that we stop seeking Your wisdom.

When we have decisions to make, help us value Your wisdom more than recognition, success, or what simply seems to be the easier way. Give us discernment to recognize the difference between what is merely desirable and what is truly good. May Your Word shape our priorities and Your Spirit guide our choices.

Lord, remind us today that nothing we could gain will ever compare to the privilege of knowing You and walking in Your wisdom. Help us pursue the things that have eternal value and hold the things of this world with open hands. May our lives reflect a growing desire not simply to gather knowledge, but to live wisely. Help us to make You first in our lives and learn to listen to Your voice. In Jesus’ name - Amen.

Questions for Reflection

  1. When I face an important decision, do I seek God’s wisdom first, or do I usually rely on what seems easiest or most logical to me?

  2. What would change in my priorities if I genuinely believed that wisdom is more valuable than anything I could possess?
