Sacrificing
Today’s Focus
Sitting with the weight of the cross and what it cost.
Scripture
“But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5 (ESV)
Prayer
Lord, we come before you today in quiet reflection. As we consider the cross, we are humbled by the weight of what you carried for us. You were pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities—taking on what we could never bear ourselves, to pay a debt you didn’t owe.
Thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you for your obedience, even to the point of death. Thank you for your deep and unchanging love that chose the cross for our sake.
Help us not to rush past this moment. Teach us to sit with the cost of our redemption and to truly grasp the depth of your grace. Where we have taken your sacrifice lightly, forgive us. Where we have grown numb to it, awaken our hearts again.
Draw us near, Lord. Let the reality of the cross soften us, humble us, and lead us to repentance and gratitude. Help us to lay down anything we are carrying that you have already paid for.
As we wait, remind us that even in the silence, you are still at work.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Questions for Reflection
What might I need to lay down at the cross today, trusting that Jesus has already paid for it?
Does the reality of the cross reshape the way I see my sin, my worth, and God’s love for me?
