Words Reveal the Heart
Scripture
“When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent. The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked is of little worth. The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense.” — Proverbs 10:19–21 (ESV)

Prayer
Father, make us mindful of the words we speak. We know how quickly words can come when we are frustrated, excited, defensive, or simply trying to make ourselves heard. Teach us that not every thought needs to be spoken and not every response needs to be immediate. Give us the wisdom to know when to speak, when to listen, and when silence is the better choice.
Guard our tongues from careless words, exaggeration, gossip, criticism, and words spoken simply to prove that we are right. Help us resist the temptation to speak before we have considered how our words might affect the people hearing them. Give us self-control when emotions are high and grace when conversations are difficult.
But Lord, don't simply make us people who say less. Make us people whose words are worth hearing. Let our conversations encourage those who are discouraged, strengthen those who are weary, bring truth where there is confusion, and offer hope where it is needed. May the people around us experience Your kindness through the way we speak to them.
Teach us to use our words as a source of nourishment rather than harm. Let our speech reflect what You are doing in our hearts, so that what comes from our mouths brings life to others. And when we fail, give us the humility to recognize it, make it right, and do better. May our words consistently point people toward truth, grace, and ultimately toward You. In Jesus’ name - Amen.
